The Chennai based singer-songwriter has been making waves with his blissful mélange of heartfelt melodies, meaningful lyrics, and lucid harmonies. Kamlesh had an inclination for singing from the mere age of 6 years. His introduction to music began early with folk and regional music. As a child, he performed for various organizations and groups in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Growing up, Kamlesh would often find himself experimenting with a range of styles. Being immersed in the influence passed down to him from a musical lineage, he gravitated towards becoming a singer-songwriter. To further solidify his foundation of the art, he studied music at the K.M Music Conservatory, where he was also part of the Sufi ensemble that performed with the founder, Dr. AR Rahman. He was one of the very few handpicked to be a part of the Vocal Intensive Course at the Berklee College of Music. Alongside his studies in music, Kamlesh also graduated from Hindustan University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Kamlesh is the embodiment of an incredible drive to expand and grow. This was one of the attributes to founding his very own band that performs within and outside Chennai. He sings in multiple languages, namely Hindi, English, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, and Marwari. “Music transcends all barriers”, he says. With a spirit deeply rooted in folk music, Kamlesh Purohit has been putting out uplifting folk hits, the kind that you relish like a home-cooked meal. Feel-good vibes are symbolic in Kamlesh’s music. His signature sound encapsulates the soul of his childhood influences and is a subtle nod to his roots. Kamlesh has carved out a niche for himself in the burgeoning genre of Indie music. His music is often praised for its familiar themes and a sort of intimacy that reels you in and leaves you in awe.

Lessons at the Conservatory and the euphoric life in Chennai have been a constant source of inspiration for Kamlesh.
